No more "hydraulic spaghetti"! CETOP plates and blocks as the foundation of a clean system

Koniec z "hydraulicznym spaghetti"! Płyty i bloki CETOP jako fundament czystego układu

You have an excellent pump, you bought precise proportional valves, and you invested in top-class filters. But if you connect all of this with dozens of hoses, tubes, tees, and nipples, you'll create a ticking time bomb under the machine's hood. Mechanics call this "hydraulic spaghetti."

Every fitting is a potential leak point. Every crossing hose is a risk of chafing. How to combat this? The answer lies in CETOP manifold subplates and hydraulic blocks.

BRhydraulic experts explain why modern engineering is moving away from piping systems in favor of solid steel blocks and why this is an investment that pays off with the first breakdown.

1. What exactly is a hydraulic manifold block?

Simply put: it's a powerful, precisely machined piece of steel or aluminum, with a complex network of intersecting channels drilled inside. These replace external hoses and pipes.

On the top (or side) surface of the block, there are standardized outlines with holes (CETOP standard). This is where spool valves and sandwich valves (e.g., NG6 or NG10) are bolted. Hoses are connected only from one side of the block (supply from the pump, return to the tank, and outputs to the actuators). All the "logic" and flows are realized inside the metal block.

2. Three reasons why you should switch to a manifold system

Why has the CETOP system completely dominated industry and modern mobile machinery?

  • Zero leaks (80% reduction in fittings): In a traditional system, connecting one valve requires a minimum of 4 threads and fittings. Each thread can start to weep oil over time due to vibrations. In an integrated block, there are no threads between valves! Oil passes from the block to the manifold through flat seals (O-rings), which are compressed by powerful bolts. The system becomes dry and sealed.

  • Compactness (Space-saving): A large, disordered tangle of hoses and valves takes up a lot of space. A hydraulic block can accommodate a control system for 5 actuators in a single steel cube the size of a shoe box.

  • Service with your eyes closed: Imagine a manifold breaking down in the middle of a spaghetti of hoses. You have to drain the oil, unscrew 4 dirty hoses, and struggle with wrenches. In a manifold block system, you simply unscrew 4 hex bolts from the top, remove the damaged manifold, place a new one, and bolt it down. The hoses from the block remain untouched! The breakdown is fixed in 3 minutes.

3. Single subplate or multi-station manifold?

Depending on your machine's needs, you have two main solutions to choose from:

  1. Single subplates: Used to mount only one valve. They have threaded connections on the sides or bottom. Ideal when you are modernizing a machine and want to insert one modern manifold valve in place of an old pipe-mounted valve.

  2. Multi-station manifolds: The true heart of complex machinery. They have from 2 to even 10 "stations" (places for valves) in one row. You feed them with only one main hose from the pump, and the manifold distributes the oil to all workstations itself.

Summary

Hydraulic blocks are the ultimate step towards creating a machine that looks and operates professionally. They are the foundation (literally and figuratively) of a reliable system that every service technician and maintenance worker will appreciate.
