Hydraulic Filters – Your Machine's First Line of Defense

Contaminants in oil are the main enemy of hydraulic power systems. It is estimated that they are responsible for over 70% of pump failures, spool valve jams, and seal damage in cylinders. Proper filtration is the cheapest and most effective "insurance" for your equipment. At BRhydraulic, we have gathered solutions tailored to both simple agricultural machinery and demanding industrial systems.

Types of filters offered by BRhydraulic

To ensure comprehensive protection of the oil circuit, we have divided our assortment into key groups:

  • Suction filters (mesh): Mounted inside the tank, directly before the pump. They retain the largest contaminants (usually 60-90 µm), protecting the pump from mechanical damage, while not restricting the free flow of oil.
  • Return filters (spin-on): The most popular solution in mobile hydraulics. They clean the oil returning from the working system to the tank, capturing filings and particles resulting from component friction (filtration standard is 10-25 µm).
  • Pressure filters (in-line): Mounted directly after the pump, on the pressure line. They have reinforced housings that can withstand pressures of 250-350 bar. They are essential in systems with precise solenoid valves (e.g., proportional).

How to choose the right filter?

When purchasing a housing or cartridge, pay attention to two most important technical parameters:

  • Flow (l/min): The filter must have a flow rate greater than the maximum capacity of your pump. A filter that is too small will cause the system to choke, foam the oil, and constantly open the bypass valve, allowing dirty oil to return to the system.
  • Filtration accuracy: Expressed in micrometers (µm). The standard for agricultural and forestry machinery is 25 µm cellulose cartridges. For sensitive industrial hydraulics, we recommend fiberglass cartridges with an accuracy of 10 µm (or less).
