1. What does the CETOP 07 (NG16) standard mean and for what flow rates is it designed?

CETOP 07 (according to ISO 4401-07) is an international standard for mounting interfaces for large industrial directional control valves.

  • NG16: This indicates that the nominal diameter of the internal flow channels is 16 mm.
  • Capacity: Valves of this size are designed to handle huge flow rates ranging from 150 to 300 l/min, at operating pressures up to 315 bar (maximum 350 bar). They are used in heavy hydraulic presses, large injection molding machines, and mining machinery.
2. How does electro-hydraulic (pilot) control work in NG16 valves?

In such large distributors, a conventional solenoid coil would not have the strength to independently move the enormous and heavy spool under full pressure. Therefore, CETOP 07 valves (often designated with the letter "H", e.g., 4WEH16) consist of two components:

  • A small pilot solenoid valve (on top): This is typically an NG6 size valve. The coil in it only opens the flow of a small amount of control oil.
  • The main working valve (at the bottom): Oil from the pilot strikes the side surfaces of the large spool at the bottom under pressure, smoothly and with tremendous force moving it into the correct position.
3. What are the auxiliary X and Y channels on the CETOP 07 connection plate used for?

Larger divider plates have additional ports that are critical for pilot control:

  • X Port (Control Supply): Allows pressure to be supplied to the small top valve from an external source (independent pump), which is required in systems with large pressure fluctuations.
  • Y Port (Control Drain): Used to drain oil from the pilot directly to the tank. The external drain (Y) protects the delicate control valve from pressure spikes in the main return port (T) of the machine.
4. Why does the pilot valve work (the coil clicks), but the main machine actuator does not move?

This is the most common service problem in CETOP 07 systems. The cause is a lack of minimum control pressure. For the small upper valve to move the lower spool, it needs operating pressure (usually a minimum of 8-12 bar).
If the machine uses a main spool that has an open flow to the tank in the neutral position (e.g., scheme G, pump unloading), the pressure in the system drops to zero, and the pilot lacks the force to operate. In such cases, the valve should be configured for external control (supply from channel X) or a pre-load valve should be used.

5. Can I replace a damaged Rexroth or Vickers valve with a CETOP 07 directional valve from BRhydraulic?
